The Benfica parish in Lisbon will host the country's first "Moving House", an intelligent building prototype that adjusts to the sun's movement to optimize solar energy production.

The project, named Alameda Eco-Digital – Hub Casa em Movimento and developed by the Portuguese company "Casas em Movimento", will be installed on Alameda Padre Álvaro Proença. The innovative technology allows the structure to rotate throughout the day, maximizing solar exposure in winter and creating shaded areas in summer, thereby improving energy efficiency.
Photovoltaic panels will power the building and its rotation mechanism. The intervention also includes 14 charging points for electric vehicles, a digital art gallery with interactive exhibitions, a new children's playground, and additional parking spaces.
Ricardo Marques, president of the Junta de Freguesia de Benfica, highlighted that the initiative aims to transform Alameda Padre Álvaro Proença into a space that brings science and technology closer to the community, reinforcing the commitment to sustainable mobility and the enhancement of public space with new cultural and technological experiences.
This initiative strengthens the promotion of electric mobility in the parish, which already has 56 charging points in operation. Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2026, with completion expected in March 2027.
