Communication for patients experiencing speech difficulties after a stroke was the central theme of the debate at the meeting of the Mutual Aid Group (GAM), held at the Fernando Fonseca Hospital, as is customary on the last Friday of each month.
With the support of Speech Therapists and elements from the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service of ULS Amadora/Sintra, communication mechanisms were identified for those facing speech difficulties due to the illness.
The Mutual Aid Group for stroke survivors meets monthly in the rooms of the Training Academy of ULS Amadora/Sintra. Each meeting addresses the main challenges faced by patients who have survived a Stroke and seeks ways to overcome them.
GAM is a partnership between Portugal AVC and the Local Health Unit Amadora/Sintra, open to all interested parties free of charge. Throughout the sessions, it serves as a space for meeting, voluntary sharing, and support between individuals who have experienced a stroke and technically trained professionals to advise them in facing daily challenges.
