The Amadora Municipal Council held the 'Growing in Equality' activity on October 20th, aimed at children from the Falagueira and Terra dos Arcos Kindergartens, with the goal of promoting equality and combating gender stereotypes.

As part of the Municipal Plan for Equality, the initiative included a guided reading of the book 'Oliver Button is a Girl', by Tomie Depaola, a work that addresses gender stereotypes and prejudices. The activity was carried out with the support of volunteers from the Amadora Local Volunteer Bank.
This initiative, which marked the Municipal Day for Equality (October 24th), aimed to raise awareness among the youngest and the school community about promoting equality, not only between men and women, but also among people of different ages, origins, and backgrounds.
The promotion of equality is considered fundamental for building a fairer, more inclusive, and supportive community, where all individuals have the same opportunities, rights, and conditions for participation in society. The action aimed to reinforce the importance of combating inequalities and discrimination, promoting respect for diversity, and fostering a culture of citizenship.
Gender equality is a central theme in exercising citizenship rights. The Amadora Municipal Council is part of the Network of Municipalities for Equality and promoted the national campaign 'Shared Responsibilities, Multiplied Time', created in 2024, which seeks to change behaviors and encourage greater sharing of domestic and care tasks between women and men.
