The project, with a municipal investment of 75,258 euros (plus VAT) and a 90-day execution period, has been awarded to the company Construções da Cancelinha, Lda. The initiative follows significant damage caused by Storm Kristin and successive intense rainfall episodes to the viewpoint's structure, slope vegetation, pavements, and retaining walls.
The intervention includes the removal of the wooden structure, demolition of retaining walls and slabs of the old terrace, as well as earthmoving operations to reshape the slope. These actions will reduce existing loads and reinforce the hillside's stability.
The new viewpoint will be located next to the existing promenade, creating a space for contemplation and rest with views over the ocean, beach, Vale do Ribeiro, and the village of São Pedro de Moel. It will feature pavements made of fine limestone cobblestones and permeable areas in sand tones, promoting rainwater infiltration and integration into the coastal landscape.
The project also includes the recovery of the slope's vegetation cover. The existing palm tree will be preserved, and shrub and tree species suitable for the coastal environment will be planted. The space will be equipped with benches, loungers, and a pergola for shade and comfort. A treated wooden fence will be installed to ensure user safety and protect the vegetation without compromising the view.
