On October 8th, the municipality of Marinha Grande was represented at the Green Flags Day, which took place at Air Base No. 1 in Sintra. This annual gathering brings together all Eco-Schools from across the country, uniting thousands of children, young people, teachers, municipalities, and partners.
Organized by the Blue Flag Association for Environment and Education (ABAAE), the event recognizes the work carried out for environmental education and sustainability. Since 1996, the program has mobilized generations towards building more sustainable schools and territories, establishing itself as one of Portugal's main national environmental education programs.
Over 4000 participants from all over the country were in Sintra to receive or renew their Eco-School Green Flag, a symbol of the year-long effort in implementing environmental protection and sustainability measures.
During the Eco-Schools Gala, the central moment of the 2026 Eco-Schools Award ceremony, students and teachers from various Eco-Schools in the municipality attended, including EB Guilherme Stephens (with 29 years of the Award) and JI da Ordem (with a project about the Oceanarium).
