The Marinha Grande Municipal Chamber unanimously approved, in its meeting on October 19, the change of name for the Marinha Grande Poente School Group to Professor Cesário Silva School Group. The decision aims to honor the memory of Professor Cesário Silva, recognizing his public service, commitment to education, and contribution to the educational, social, and community development of the municipality.
This proposal reiterates a decision by the Municipal Assembly on September 14, 2026, and has the favorable opinion of the General Council and the School Group's Directorate. The School Group's Directorate sent a proposal with the same objective to the Municipality on October 13, considering that the new designation will preserve collective memory and strengthen the sense of belonging.
Following municipal approval, the proposal will be submitted to AGSE – Agency for the Management of the Educational System, for subsequent decision and homologation by the Minister of Education, Science, and Innovation. The new designation will retain the School Group's code 161688.
Professor Cesário Silva, with a background in Mechanical Engineering, Education, and Educational Sciences, began his teaching career at the Eng.º Acácio Calazans Duarte Secondary School in the 1988/1989 academic year. Over more than 30 years, he held teaching, pedagogical, and leadership positions, including the presidency of the Provisional Administrative Commission and the directorship of the Eng.º Acácio Calazans Duarte Secondary School and, since 2014, of the School Group itself.
His career was marked by the promotion of pedagogical innovation, diversification of learning, and the development of an inclusive school. The School Group participated in national and international projects, such as the Pilot Projects for Pedagogical Innovation and the Escolas2030 Program of the Aga Khan Foundation.
Professor Cesário Silva was also committed to enhancing educational offerings, organizing, in partnership with the Municipality, exhibitions of professional and higher education. He participated as a speaker in seminars and conferences on education and school management. In 2022, the Municipality of Marinha Grande awarded him the Municipal Medal of Educational Merit.
