The Municipality of Tavira has entered into a partnership with the Casa do Povo de Santo Estêvão, the Clube de Vela de Tavira, the Tavira Natação Clube, the RIA – Aqua Clube, and the Clube Bike Team Tavira to implement the municipality's Physical Activity Promotion Plan, named Todos em Movimento (PPAF – TM). The plan involves technical staff in physical education and sports and represents a total investment of €151,500.00, with a projected duration from October this year to June 2027.
This initiative aligns with the guidelines of the National Strategy for the Promotion of Physical Activity, Health, and Well-being. To coordinate projects and guide the population, the Municipal Office for the Promotion of Physical Activity of the Municipality operates from the Pavilhão Municipal Dr. Eduardo Mansinho.
The projects, which are free and diverse, cater to different sports and age groups: Crescer em Movimento (3-17 years), with sub-projects such as Infantários em Movimento, Move-te na Escola, and Desportiv@mente; Põe-te a Mexer (18-55 years), including gymnastics and aerobics classes; Viva + (>55 years), offering maintenance gymnastics, aerobics, and water aerobics for seniors; and Atividade Física e Saúde for special populations, with projects like Atividade Física Adaptada and GATO.
In partnership with the Local Health Unit (ULS) of the Algarve, the projects Diabetes em movimento have been developed, with sessions held three times a week at the Pavilhão Municipal Dr. Eduardo Mansinho, and the Close-Proximity Respiratory Rehabilitation Program – PRRP, in collaboration with the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, also with weekly sessions at the same venue.
Cross-cutting projects such as Todos a Caminhar (weekly walks/runs), Tavira ConVid’a Pedalar (guided mountain bike tours), and Xutos N’Bola (futsal in late/residual hours) complement the offering, with open admission criteria for everyone.
The objective of the Tavira City Council, together with its partner entities, is to reduce physical inactivity levels across all ages and provide a diverse and free sports program.
