This initiative reinforces the municipal policy of proximity and social inclusion, consolidating Loulé as a “City Friendly to Older People”. The program covers various locations in the municipality, including Loulé, Quarteira, Almancil, and Alte.
The month kicks off on October 1st, International Day of Older Persons, with the opening of the “Bairr’Art” Exhibition at the Mercado Municipal de Loulé and the celebration of World Music Day at the Auditório do Solar da Música Nova.
Throughout the month, the agenda includes health and prevention initiatives such as sessions on “Prevention of Dementias” (day 2), “Good Nutrition to Prevent Fractures” (day 6), “Self-Care” (day 7), “Medication Management” and “Mindfulness” (day 8), “Mental Health and Well-being” (day 16), and “Swallowing: Prevention and Adaptation” (day 20), mostly at Loulé+Social.
In the cultural and leisure area, highlights include the play “Sempre que a Revista Canta” (October 3rd, Pavilhão Multiusos de Almancil), the Fashion Show “E o tempo passa...” (October 9th, Praça do Mar, in Quarteira), the traditional Social Dances at the Salão de Festas Municipal de Loulé (October 10th and 24th), and a musical presentation at the Auditório do Solar da Música Nova (day 17th).
In terms of citizenship and safety, there will be informational sessions on “Older People Victims of Crime and Violence” (day 13th, at Loulé+Social) and the presentation of the “Family Emergency Plan and Individual Emergency Kit” (day 15th, at the facilities of the Serviço Municipal de Proteção Civil).
The month will conclude on October 30th, at the Biblioteca Municipal de Loulé, with the Conversation Cycle "O Tempo que Habita em Nós: A journey through the transformations of the female body", led by doctor Ana Cardoso.
Informative and cultural activities are free to participate in, with some requiring prior registration. Throughout October, seniors will have free access to sports facilities such as the Municipal Pools of Quarteira and Loulé, the Athletics Track of Quarteira, the Tennis Courts of Loulé and Quarteira, and the Gyms of Pavilhão Municipal Professor Joaquim Vairinhos (Loulé) and Pavilhão Multiusos 25 de Abril (Almancil).
The Loulé Municipal Council has prioritized the senior population with investment in free access to sports, cultural decentralization, and health and safety literacy, aiming to combat social isolation and ensure quality of life.
