The Municipality of Lagos was present at FINA 2026 – Innovation and Blue Business Fair, held in Lisbon on October 15th. The event, promoted by the Center of Competence in Blue Economy (C2EA), brought together various public and private entities, companies, scientific and academic institutions, investors, and entrepreneurs linked to the Blue Economy.
As part of the FINA Congress program, Lagos municipality's participation included a presentation titled «Lagos – From the Sea's Legacy to a Blue Future». The intervention focused on the territory's potential and economic development opportunities associated with the sea, highlighting four areas of opportunity: Tourism and Nautical; Science and Biotechnology; Innovation and Entrepreneurship; and Sustainability and Resources. Topics covered included coastal and nautical tourism, the activity of the Marina de Lagos, modernization of fishing support infrastructure, aquaculture, and scientific research applied to marine resources.
This presence served to promote the municipality's characteristics and resources, share knowledge, and identify potential partners and cooperation opportunities. The initiative is part of the reflection process the Municipality is undertaking to build a future municipal strategy for the Blue Economy, based on innovation, sustainability, and collaboration between institutions, companies, and knowledge centers.
Continuing this work, the Municipality of Lagos will host the Lagos Forum – Blue Ecosystem on November 25, 2026, at the Auditorium of the Paços do Concelho Séc. XXI Building. The event, themed «From Strategy to Action – Knowledge, Innovation, and Opportunities for the Territory», will gather representatives from public bodies, research institutions, collaborative laboratories, companies, and other agents linked to the Blue Economy to discuss public policies, scientific knowledge, innovation, funding, and economic development opportunities.
One of the planned highlights is the round table «Lagos 2030 – What Blue Economy Cluster do we want to build?», which aims to foster a joint reflection on the challenges, potential, and cooperation possibilities among different sea-related sectors. The Forum intends to contribute to identifying priorities, projects, and lines of action that will support the progressive definition of a Blue Economy strategy in Lagos, valuing the territory's resources and promoting more diversified, innovative, and sustainable economic development.
