The Lídia Jorge Municipal Library and the Pintor Samora Barros Art Gallery in Albufeira present two new exhibitions during October, exploring the cosmos and cultural heritage.

From October 1st to 26th, the Lídia Jorge Municipal Library will host the exhibition “Olhar o Universo: uma viagem através da astrofotografia” (Looking at the Universe: a journey through astrophotography), by Rita Castilho. The exhibition invites visitors to discover the sky through images that reveal light from a distant past, thousands or millions of years old, sparking curiosity about the dimension of the Universe. The initiative is a collaboration between the author, the University of the Algarve, the CCMAR, the Pattern Institute, Astrocitas, and the GOAAA. After its showing in Albufeira, the exhibition will tour other locations in the region.
The public can visit the astrophotography exhibition from Tuesday to Friday, between 9:30 AM and 7:15 PM, and on Mondays and Saturdays, from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The library is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
Concurrently, the Pintor Samora Barros Art Gallery will host, from October 2nd to 28th, the painting exhibition “Cacau, Sustentabilidade Ancestral – Poesia em cor” (Cocoa, Ancestral Sustainability – Poetry in color), by Meire Gomes. The artist, originally from southern Bahia, Brazil, and residing in Portugal since 1998, draws inspiration from her origins to offer a reconnection with her homeland through painting.
“In this exhibition, I share not only works but also vivid memories of my homeland: the childhood and the flavors that shaped my memory and identity,” explains Meire Gomes. Her artistic career spans visual arts, theater, and music, with works exhibited in galleries and public spaces. Gomes also teaches painting classes in Lagoa and Monchique, and has been involved in creating educational theater pieces in the Algarve, working as a director, costume designer, set designer, and actress.
The painting exhibition will be open to the public from Monday to Saturday, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The gallery is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
