In October, the community initiative "Diabetes em Movimento" will resume, aiming to promote physical activity and health literacy for individuals diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Regular exercise is an essential pillar in managing this condition, aiding in glycemic control and reducing cardiovascular risk. The program also focuses on enhancing participants' knowledge and autonomy, striving for more effective disease management and, consequently, an improved quality of life.
Sessions will be held in person on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, guided by an exercise professional and nurses. The initiative in Soure is a collaboration between the Municipality of Soure and ULS Baixo Mondego, involving USF VitaSaurium of Soure, USF Campos do Mondego of Granja do Ulmeiro, the Unidade de Cuidados na Comunidade de Soure, and the Serviço de Saúde Pública, coordinated by the Direção-Geral da Saúde.
Participation is free but requires medical or nursing referral. Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes who fit the program's profile are encouraged to speak with their Family Doctor to request a referral.
During the opening session, the Vice-President of the Câmara Municipal de Soure, Teresa Pedrosa, announced an investment aimed at improving participation conditions, including the provision of a new space for activities.
The motto "More activity, more prevention, more health" encapsulates the initiative's objectives.
