Pampilhosa da Serra hosted the 5th Meeting of the UNESCO Learning Cities Network in Portugal, an event that brought together mayors and technicians from various municipalities. The Vice-President of the Municipal Council, Alexandra Tomé, highlighted the importance of continuous learning for building more sustainable communities with a strong sense of belonging.
The meeting, themed «Learning Cities: Local and Global Challenges», featured the presentation of the Eira da Brincadeira methodology, developed by the Municipality, and its adaptation for seniors, promoting intergenerational encounters and lifelong participation.
The plenary session included participation from 11 Municipalities, addressing learning models, sustainable development, the 2030 Agenda, and peace culture. A musical moment and a poem recitation by the Eiras da Brincadeira Sénior from Dornelas do Zêzere and Unhais-o-Velho marked the opening.
Alexandra Tomé emphasized that «Learning has never been just about what we know. It's about who we become, the people we touch, and the world we help build», underscoring the network's purpose of fostering cooperation and social transformation through learning.
Pampilhosa da Serra joined this network, which includes 17 Portuguese municipalities, in 2016, reaffirming its commitment to valuing knowledge and creating learning opportunities for everyone.
