The Municipality of Góis won the 7th edition of the Municipality of the Year Award – Grupo Mosqueteiros, in the Social Action category, subcategory Quality of Life in Old Age (Integration), with the "Aproximar" project. This distinction recognizes a municipal initiative of close social intervention, focused on promoting active aging, preventing social isolation, and strengthening community participation.
The awards ceremony took place on October 7th, at the Belém Cultural Center in Lisbon, during the 3rd Local Summit. The Municipality of Góis was represented by the Mayor, Rui Sampaio, and the Deputy Head of the Presidency Support Office, Inês Bandeira.
The Aproximar Project, developed with the aim of bringing regular social intervention to communities furthest from the main centers of the municipality, is currently active in the localities of Carvalhal do Sapo, Fonte Limpa, Malhada, and Milreu. Activities include social gatherings, cognitive stimulation, and community participation, fostering interaction between the senior population and municipal services.
Receiving this award is a recognition of the work carried out by the Municipality of Góis in social action, valuing an approach based on proximity and response to local needs. The distinction also reinforces the importance of municipal policies aimed at active aging and improving the quality of life for the population.
