The Arts and Entertainment Centre (CAE) in Figueira da Foz is hosting, since the afternoon of October 5th, the exhibition "Alter Ego - Casa do Artistas | 50 Portraits of Portuguese Artists", by António Homem Cardoso. The exhibition, which explores the "other self" of Portuguese artists, will be on display in room 2 until December 13, 2026.
The exhibition features portraits of personalities such as Simone de Oliveira, Herman José, Manuela Maria, and António Vitorino de Almeida, among many others. António Homem Cardoso, who calls himself "Master", guided the audience through stories and revealed the essence of his work, born, according to the author, "to escape the vulgarity of portraits".
The exhibition, inaugurated when the photographer was 81 years old, conveys a message about the importance of continuing to create and reinvent oneself, regardless of age. "There is always room to create, reinvent, and leave a mark," emphasized the artist, proving with his work that "it is never too late to do things differently".
The inauguration was attended by figures linked to Culture, such as Helena Isabel, Luís de Matos, and Zita Favretto, as well as municipal representatives: the Mayor, Pedro Santana Lopes, the Councillor for Culture, Cláudia Rocha, councillors Manuel Domingues and João Martins, and the President of the Municipal Assembly.
The event celebrated the vitality of Culture in Figueira da Foz, highlighting the importance of people, artists, and stories. The afternoon concluded with a "Figueira d’Honra", a toast to Art and the belief in the capacity to "continue looking, feeling, and discovering" at any age.
