The initiative "Communities that care: Everyone's role in Alzheimer's", led by Rosário Zincke, President of the National Directorate of Alzheimer Portugal, took place on October 2nd. The event focused on dementias in general and Alzheimer's disease, detailing its main symptoms, risk factors, and prevention methods.
The rights and legal issues relevant to people with dementia and their caregivers were also discussed. The session highlighted the importance of timely information and knowledge of legal protection mechanisms to safeguard patients' autonomy and dignity.
Rosário Zincke emphasized the role of Alzheimer Portugal in supporting patients, families, and caregivers, offering clarification, legal guidance, and referrals to appropriate services.
The meeting underscored that dementia prevention and the creation of inclusive communities are shared responsibilities. The community can play a role in promoting healthy lifestyles, early identification of warning signs, and fostering inclusive environments.
Municipal libraries were recognized as spaces for proximity and knowledge, essential for promoting health literacy and community awareness on relevant topics.
