Last Friday, September 18, the Municipality of Oleiros marked European Mobility Week with the initiative “The Town through the eyes of various generations”. The activity brought together community members in intergenerational teams who toured different areas of the town and visited local services and facilities, including the CCT, the Bank, the Pharmacy, the GNR post, the School, and the Health Center.
Using a checklist, participants observed, evaluated, and recorded the conditions of circulation, accessibility, and safety of public spaces. The aim was to identify critical points and situations that could hinder daily mobility.
Whenever safety conditions allowed, practical experiments were conducted with different means and aids for movement, such as wheelchairs, baby strollers, and shopping carts. These experiences allowed participants to firsthand experience the challenges faced daily by different people.
The event also included the participation of the Oleiros Scouts, reinforcing the spirit of community and collaboration. The initiative allowed the public to feel, understand, and reflect on the urban space through the perspective of different generations.
The main purpose of the action was to map intervention priorities and actively involve citizens in the commitment to make the town more accessible, safe, and inclusive.
