The initiative, organized by the Municipality of Oleiros in partnership with CLDS 5G “Raízes” and the Escola Segura program, took place between 10 am and 12 pm. During this period, road traffic and parking were prohibited in the area next to the Multiusos das Devesas Altas and the Municipal Chamber, creating a safe space for various outdoor activities.
The event was attended by the President of the Municipal Chamber of Oleiros, Miguel Marques, Councillor Filipe Bártolo, representatives from CLDS 5G “Raízes”, technicians from the Mobile Health Unit (UMS), and municipal technicians from the sports and environment departments. The event also received support from the Volunteer Firefighters Association of Oleiros and the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR).
More than just marking the date, the initiative sought to demonstrate the potential of public space beyond car circulation, transforming the Municipal Square into a place for experimentation, gathering, and physical activity, encouraging more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable mobility.
The activity had a strong intergenerational component, fostering encounters and sharing among different age groups and encouraging more active and healthy lifestyles. The Municipality of Oleiros aimed to raise community awareness about the importance of mobility designed for everyone and the value of public spaces as places for meeting and well-being.
This action was part of the programming for the European Mobility Week, which took place between September 16 and 22, under the theme “Mobility for All – Justice between Generations”.
