The Bragança Municipality has released its September 2026 monthly report, detailing the main initiatives and decisions taken by the council. The month's primary focus was on sustainable mobility, with the presentation of the baseline study for the new Bragança Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS). This study, resulting from specialized technical analysis and two public participation sessions open to the community, was unveiled at the National Railway Museum.
In terms of mobility, the municipality has bolstered its fleet with six new 100% electric buses, five of which are for interurban services. The Bus Station has seen an updated timetable management for the STUB services, and the procedure for installing 40 new electric vehicle charging points in the city is underway. The project for the future Energy Island was also presented, which will be submitted for community funding.
Other September highlights include the Council of Ministers meeting in Bragança, where the creation of the University of Bragança and the Interior North was approved. Events such as the Bairrofolia and various pilgrimages, including the one for Nossa Senhora da Serra in Rebordãos, the Divino Senhor da Agonia in Chãos, and Santa Rita in Terroso, also marked the month.
In the environment and territory sector, procedures were initiated for the Requalification of Monte de São Bartolomeu, São Bento, and Estrada do Turismo, as well as for conservation and improvement works at the Bragança Municipal Theatre, valued at 860 thousand euros. The Bragança Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS) was submitted for public consultation. Repair and maintenance interventions were carried out at Parque da Braguinha, the Traffic School, and on rural paths. An unfavorable opinion was issued in the cross-border public consultation regarding the “La Majada Wind Farm” project. A protocol was signed with the Polytechnic University of Bragança for the “Padel Olympic Lab – Cyber-Physical Training System – Smart Court” project.
In terms of people and society, the Via Azul Kit was presented, an initiative by the Bragança Municipality in partnership with the Volunteer Firefighters of Izeda, aimed at making pre-hospital care more inclusive for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Municipal Social Housing was allocated under supported rental schemes to households in social emergency situations. The call for applications for financial support for regular activities and investments by Cultural, Artistic, Recreational, Humanitarian, and Social Solidarity Associations was approved.
In innovation, the institutional website of the Bragança Municipality received the Gold Seal of Usability and Accessibility awarded by ARTE – State Technological Reform Agency.
The environmental rehabilitation and valorization of the Fervença River is a strategic priority. A Technical and Scientific Collaboration Protocol was signed with the APA – Portuguese Environment Agency and the Polytechnic University of Bragança to intervene along 3.7 kilometers of the urban corridor, focusing on improving water quality, restoring the riverbed and banks, controlling invasive species, and conducting environmental and scientific monitoring. The execution project for the “Rio Fervença Urban Park – Coxa Green Park” was approved.
Other initiatives included the presentation of the commemorative program “Bragança: 50 Years of Local Power. 50 Years of Future.”, the VI Meeting of Good Educational Practices at the Bragança Municipal Theatre, the start of the Bragança Classic Fest, and the European Mobility Week with European Car-Free Day.
In the Parishes (Freguesias), the Regulation for Support to the Parish Councils and Unions of the Municipality of Bragança was approved. Procedures were opened for the renovation of the network and wastewater treatment station in Gimonde. Financial support was granted for Fairs and Events in São Pedro and Quintanilha, and for the construction/rehabilitation of Community Centers in Sendas and Zoio. Support was also provided for the construction or improvement of Multi-sport courts in Gimonde, to the Parish Council of Outeiro (cession of a primary school building and urban requalification works), and to non-profit institutions such as the Parish Church Factory of Serapicos. A new inter-administrative contract was signed with the Parish Council of Parâmio for urban requalification.
In the area of economy and employment, space requests were registered at the Bragança Municipal Market and the Brigantia Ecopark. October highlights include the Economy and Innovation Week, from October 16th to 29th.
