The celebrations will take place in the afternoon and include a solemn session, with Manuel José Vieira Simões, professor and researcher at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, as the guest of honor. The session will bring together institutional representatives and the community to mark the occasion.
The program also features the presentation and swearing-in of the Citizen Advocate, a figure intended to strengthen the connection between the Municipality and its citizens. The commemorative program also includes the inauguration of several projects completed during the first year of the current Municipal Executive's mandate.
Manuel José Vieira Simões, a professor and researcher at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, is recognized nationally and internationally. His work places him among the top 1% of the world's most cited researchers and the top 2% of the most influential scientists globally, having received the Scientific Excellence Award from FEUP in 2022 and the Scientific Research Excellence Award from the University of Porto in 2026.
The choice of Simões as guest of honor aims to recognize a career of excellence in scientific research. Through this program, the Municipality celebrates another anniversary of the granting of the Manueline Charter, its history and identity, and the development of the county.
