The Guimarães Municipal Council approved measures for housing and social cohesion, including regulatory reviews and enhanced support for medication, childcare, and adapted transport.

The Guimarães Municipal Council approved, during its executive meeting, a set of measures focused on housing and social cohesion. Key decisions included initiating changes to the Municipal Regulations for Housing Support and Promotion and the Local Housing Council Regulations, alongside financial support for critical areas such as medication access for vulnerable individuals, increased nursery places, and adapted transport for citizens with disabilities.
In urban planning and housing, the goal is to align municipal norms with new national decrees, providing the municipality with more agile tools. Urbanism Councillor, Constantino Veiga, emphasized the need to "be more agile and effective" to meet the needs of Vimaranenses and recent requirements. The amendment to the Local Housing Council Regulation aims to streamline processes and optimize decision-making channels.
In the Health sector, support was reinforced for the “Abem: Rede Solidária do Medicamento” program, with the issuance of 300 cards valued at approximately 40 thousand euros, to assist with the purchase of co-funded medications for disadvantaged individuals.
An increase in nursery places was also secured through extraordinary support for the Centro Social Cultural Desportivo e Recreativo de Vila Nova de Sande, which will create an additional 16 places. The Vice-President of the Guimarães Municipal Council, Eduardo Leite, highlighted the importance of these new places for families and assured that municipal services are working to create a further 60 places soon.
A subsidy was also approved for a special transport service for 42 individuals with disabilities, representing an investment of around 350 thousand euros for the upcoming year, with a budget reserve for new applications. Eduardo Leite stressed the rigor in public resource management and the permanent availability of municipal services to assist those in need, clarifying that support is paid directly to service providers.
