The "Honra e Futuro" ceremony, held at the Guimarães Volunteer Firefighters' headquarters, marked a significant reinforcement of the corps' resources. The new emergency ambulance was entirely donated by local businessman David Faria, while the Urban Firefighting Vehicle (VUCI), an investment of 388,800 euros, was funded by the Municipality of Guimarães.
The Mayor of Guimarães, Ricardo Araújo, emphasized the importance of combining equipment upgrades with the training of future generations, stating, "When we strengthen ourselves with new equipment, we are strengthening our response capacity in the present, but when we invest in training, we are investing in our future."
João Pedro Castro, President of the Humanitarian Association of Guimarães Volunteer Firefighters, highlighted the institution's human value and thanked the Municipality's support and the generosity of David Faria and his family, linking the motto «Honra e Futuro» to the recognition of the corps' journey and the responsibility to prepare future generations.
The Firefighters' commander, Joaquim Oliveira, underscored the increasing demands of rescue operations, driven by extreme weather phenomena, advocating for adequate equipment and better safety conditions for personnel. "When firefighters, the municipality, and the community walk side by side, the population is better protected," he stressed.
The ceremony also included the official presentation of students from the Professional Firefighter Course, taught at Escola Secundária Francisco de Holanda in partnership with the Volunteer Firefighters and the National School of Firefighters. This training provides dual certification, allowing students to complete secondary education and obtain professional qualifications as firefighters.
