The Braga Official Collection Center received children from the Colégio Nossa Senhora das Graças today, in an initiative by the Municipality of Braga to raise awareness among the youngest about animal welfare.

The visit, part of the Animal Week commemorations, was attended by the vice-president of the Braga Municipal Chamber, Altino Bessa. He highlighted the importance of instilling in young people an awareness of animal welfare, reminding them that animals are living beings that need care and a relationship based on respect and responsibility.
The project "Escola Amiga dos Animais" (School Friend of Animals), promoted by the municipality, conducts awareness-raising actions in schools, allowing children direct contact with animals and teaching them the necessary care. The program also includes visits to the Braga Official Collection Center, where participants can learn about the work being done and the reality of the animals housed there, encouraging empathy, respect, and responsible adoption.
Throughout the 2025/2026 academic year, the project involved approximately 3,800 participants. Since the beginning of 2026, awareness actions have reached about 1,600 children, while around 550 visitors from various institutions have passed through the Official Collection Center.
Through these initiatives, the Municipality of Braga continues to invest in education for animal welfare, promoting responsible behaviors from childhood.
