The winning proposal, presented by Verónica Mesquita Silva, aims to create an innovative space to support the development of young people in the municipality through sports, technology, and mentorship. The project, with an estimated cost of 20,000 euros – the OPJ's allocated amount – includes the installation of an intelligent system for recording and analyzing training sessions and competitions to enhance learning, technical support, and the motivation of young athletes.
BECA 360 also encompasses a mentorship program with former athletes from the municipality who represented Portugal in the Young National Teams and are currently pursuing their university studies and sports careers. The project is intended for the youth of the municipality, particularly BECA athletes, School Sports students, and young people involved in sports and associative activities.
This was the 3rd edition of the OPJ, which featured five proposals for voting: BECA 360 – Young Sports Development Centre; Cultural Area Group – Gandarela Village Zone; Education and Culture Mix; Celorico Roots and Flavors; and Cultural Area Group. The voting was more inclusive this year, with the option for online and in-person voting for young people aged 15 to 35.
The winning project will now be implemented, representing another example of active youth participation in the community. The Youth Councillor of the Municipality, José Sousa, highlighted the importance of the OPJ in consolidating youth policies, "ensuring involvement, participation, and responsibility in the presented projects, enabling them to promote the changes they wish to see implemented, with sustainable, inclusive projects truly committed to the development of the municipality".
José Sousa expressed enthusiasm for the youth's engagement, both in submitting proposals and in the voting process, considering the OPJ a key tool for promoting active and responsible citizenship.
