The Geira Museum hosted, on October 9th, the presentation session for the first edition of the Gerês Ativo – Nature Sports Encounter. This initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Terras de Bouro, will run from October 10th to 18th.
The session was attended by representatives from the media and tourism operators. The Councillor for Tourism, António Cunha, highlighted the importance of promoting the territory through nature experiences and the role of local businesses in a diverse and sustainable tourism offering.
António Cunha emphasized that Gerês Ativo aims to combat seasonality, enhancing the attractiveness of Terras de Bouro throughout the year, focusing on improving the tourism offer, valuing natural resources, and creating experiences that bring visitors closer without compromising preservation.
The Mayor, Manuel Tibo, praised the contribution of tourism animation companies to the local economy's dynamism, stressing the importance of balancing tourism promotion with environmental protection and the valorization of the Peneda-Gerês National Park as a factor for development and population retention.
This first edition brings together 12 tourism animation companies and around 40 activities in various locations within the municipality. The program includes hiking, trail running, mountain biking, horseback riding, water activities, adventure and off-road experiences, as well as nature discovery and night sky observation initiatives.
The session concluded with a visit to the collective photographic exhibition «Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês: Um Território, Seis Perspetivas», displayed outside the Núcleo Museológico de Campo do Gerês. The exhibition showcases different perspectives on the natural heritage of the National Park.
