The race, which sold out its registrations in record time, takes place in the Baixo Vouga Lagunar area, covering Salreu, Canelas, and Fermelã, within the municipality of Estarreja. Integrated into the BioRia Trails, near the Ria de Aveiro, the run challenges athletes to overcome around 30 natural and artificial obstacles along a 10 km course, which includes carrying bales, transporting logs, and crossing mud and water ditches.
The 10 km race sold out its 3000 available spots in just three hours. This year's program also includes a 5 km race, elite starts, the BioRace Júnior for youngsters aged 6 to 14, and an inclusive race adapted for people with disabilities. The start and finish are located near the Centro de Interpretação Ambiental do BioRia, in Salreu.
Over ten editions, BioRace has established itself as an event that attracts thousands of people to Estarreja, promoting mutual aid, camaraderie, and contact with nature. Participants from all over the country, including Madeira, are present, divided between those competing for time and those facing the obstacles as a team.
Organized by the Câmara Municipal de Estarreja with the support of dozens of volunteers, the initiative also aims to showcase and raise awareness for the preservation of the municipality's natural heritage. The reuse of materials in obstacle construction and environmental cleanup actions are hallmarks of the event.
Starts begin at 10:00 AM with the BioRace Júnior, followed by the inclusive race at 10:30 AM and the 5 km race at 10:45 AM. The main 10 km race will have 17 starts spread throughout the afternoon, beginning at 2:20 PM.
Participants are advised to use the train, as the Salreu station is approximately 700 meters from the event venue.
