On the upcoming October 10th, the Maritime Museum of Ílhavo will host the I Meeting of Museums of the Aveiro Region. The initiative, promoted by the Intermunicipal Community of the Aveiro Region (CIRA) through its Working Group of Museums, will bring together professionals and museum institutions for a joint reflection on the role of museum networks, cooperation between entities, and their relevance in the community.
The opening session will be attended by prominent figures such as Rui Dias, Mayor of Ílhavo; Fátima Roque, representative of Museums and Monuments of Portugal; Jorge Almeida, President of the Intermunicipal Council of CIRA; and José Ribau Esteves, President of the Coordination and Regional Development Commission of the Center.
This will be followed by a conference by Fátima Roque, Coordinator of the Portuguese Network of Museums, who will address the context of this initiative within the national museum policy landscape. The event aims to be a source of inspiration for the creation of a regional network based on cooperation, quality, and innovation.
The meeting will continue with the theme “Museum Networks and Best Practices”, featuring the participation of different museum networks from other regions, such as the Algarve, Lezíria do Tejo, and the Metropolitan Area of Porto. A diagnosis of the “Museums of the Aveiro Region” will be presented, aiming for a greater understanding of the regional museum reality.
In the afternoon, the diagnosis of the Museums of the Aveiro Region and the Principles Charter of the Museum Network of the Aveiro Region will be presented. This document will define the guiding principles for the establishment and future operation of the new network, which will involve the 11 Municipalities of the region.
This I Meeting of Museums marks a significant moment in the consolidation of the Museum Network within the Intermunicipal Community. The mission of this network is to promote cooperation between institutions, value cultural heritage, strengthen identity and territorial cohesion, and affirm its educational value.
