José Pina has been appointed the new artistic director and cultural programmer for the Municipality of Estarreja. His responsibilities will include shaping new challenges and objectives for the Estarreja Cine-Teatro, as well as for the council's cultural facilities, events, and projects.
Isabel Simões Pinto, president of the Estarreja Municipal Council, highlighted that the municipality's cultural policy is undergoing a transition phase. "José Pina has the established experience to lead and drive this strategy, focused on attracting new audiences and artistic diversification, to consolidate Estarreja as a reference cultural hub in the region," she stated.
With a degree in International Relations, a Postgraduate Degree in Cultural Tourism from the University of Barcelona, and a Master's in Cities and Urban Cultures from the University of Coimbra, José Pina has a professional background in strategic planning and the management of public cultural policies. His experience includes work in Santa Maria da Feira, Ílhavo, and Aveiro.
As a cultural manager and programmer, Pina has been involved in events such as the Festival dos Canais (Aveiro), Prisma – Art Light & Tech (Aveiro), Imaginarius – International Street Theatre Festival (Santa Maria da Feira), Festival Rádio Faneca (Ílhavo), Viagem Medieval em Terras de Santa Maria (Santa Maria da Feira), and directed venues like the Cine-Teatro António Lamoso (Santa Maria da Feira), the Cultural Centre of Ílhavo, and the Teatro Aveirense.
Additionally, José Pina was responsible for creating the Strategic Plan for Culture of Aveiro 2019-2030, coordinated Aveiro's bid for European Capital of Culture 2027, and served as executive coordinator and programmer for Aveiro2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture.
