The new concession will ensure a permanent response for road cleaning, debris removal, spill treatment, and identification of damage to municipal property. Currently, the Espinho Municipal Firefighters partially handle this safety restoration, but the new service will include comprehensive road cleaning, waste collection and removal to appropriate treatment centers.
The future concessionaire will be responsible for all human resources, vehicles, equipment, and materials required, freeing up Firefighter resources for priority missions. The service can be requested by the Public Security Police, the Espinho Municipal Firefighters Corps, or the Municipal Civil Protection Service.
The Mayor of Espinho, Jorge Ratola, highlighted the importance of this measure for road safety and public space cleanliness. "We want to ensure that, in addition to restoring safety conditions for circulation, waste is properly removed and handled by a certified and specialized entity," he stated.
Ratola added that the process, authorized by the Municipal Assembly in January 2024, has taken too long and that the executive is working to turn decisions into concrete actions. The contract will be for three years, with the concessionaire assuming the costs and risks of operation.
