The Portuguese project, which transforms a family's traditional wine press into a living laboratory for sustainability, innovation, and community engagement, was among the 13 laureates from various countries, including Ukraine, North Macedonia, Japan, and Brazil. The award ceremony took place on October 16, 2026.
In its sixth edition, the New European Bauhaus (NEB) prizes celebrate projects, concepts, and ideas that combine sustainability, inclusion, and aesthetics, aiming to enrich people's lives and communities through the integration of culture and technology, innovation, and design. The 2026 edition also included a special prize for water resilience.
Additionally, 20 small municipalities were honored with the NEB Boost for Small Municipalities award, an initiative supported by a European Parliament pilot project that highlights the role of these communities in building a more sustainable future.
“"Over the last six years, this competition has showcased the best of European creativity in building a sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful future. This year's special prize highlights the importance of water resilience and improving how we manage water – one of our most precious resources. And the international awards show how the values of the New European Bauhaus resonate beyond Europe, from Brazil to Japan."
Winners receive a monetary prize of up to 20,000 euros, a communication package, and support to enhance their visibility.
