The Municipal Assembly of Albergaria-a-Velha has approved a 5 million euro loan to upgrade 30 communication routes across the municipality's six parishes.

The largest portion of the investment will go towards the rehabilitation of the Estrada da Senhora do Socorro, between Albergaria-a-Velha and Fradelos (Branca), a heavily used local road serving as an alternative to the busy IC2. The project includes structural repair, widening and paving, creation of two roundabouts, a cycle lane, rainwater drainage, and signage.
Another significant intervention is planned for Rua Comendador Augusto Martins Pereira in Frossos, involving the reformulation of road and pedestrian pavements, signage, alterations to the rainwater network, and reorganization of electrical infrastructure.
The list of roads and streets to be improved also includes routes in the Industrial Zone of Albergaria-a-Velha; Rua Arrota da Costa in Alquerubim; Rua das Marridas – 3rd phase, in Angeja; Estrada Real, in Branca; Rua do Outeiro - Pinheiro, in São João de Loure; and Rua das Barrocas – Carvalhal, in Ribeira de Fráguas.
Following the approval of the loan conditions and a preliminary review by the Court of Auditors, the Municipal Council can launch public tenders for the first works in 2027. The planned interventions will be carried out in phases over two years.
Carlos Coelho, Mayor of Albergaria-a-Velha, highlighted that the six parish council presidents were consulted to define priority routes, considering their state of degradation due to high traffic volume and years of adverse weather. The mayor also noted that the Municipality will address other roads needing improvement using municipal budget funds.
