The Velas Municipal Auditorium hosted a session of the The Waves Film Festival 2026 (STWFF), an international initiative focused on ocean protection and coastal ecosystems.

The session, part of the Municipality's Cultural Agenda and supported by the Velas Municipal Council, was part of the Save Azores Waves project, promoted by the Azores Sea Alliance in partnership with the Save The Waves Coalition. The event offered the local community the chance to watch films highlighting marine conservation and environmental sustainability.
The program included the screening of Save The Bay, a documentary portraying the mobilization of surfers, fishermen, and marine biologists in defense of threatened coastal ecosystems, as well as Primeira: The Life of Rio Waida, a film following the life, culture, and island identity of a new generation deeply connected to the sea and surfing.
