The entrance of the Living Museum of Franciscanism hosted the "Mostra Viva da Sopa da Pedra", an initiative promoted by the team of the Division of Culture, Youth and Sport of the Ribeira Grande Municipal Chamber, as part of the commemorations of World Food Day.
The initiative was attended by the President of the Ribeira Grande Municipal Chamber, Jaime Vieira, and the Vice-President, Délia Melo, who joined in sharing stone soup with visitors and community members, in an action that promoted coexistence and the valorization of popular traditions.
Integrated into the Annual Activity Plan of the Living Museum of Franciscanism for 2026, the "Mostra Viva da Sopa da Pedra" aimed to provide direct contact with practices, knowledge, and customs that are part of collective memory, while simultaneously contributing to the valorization and safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage of the Azores.
The sharing of food took on a particularly relevant meaning in this context, establishing a link between local traditions and the values associated with the Franciscan tradition, namely fraternity, solidarity, simplicity, and sharing.
Through this and other initiatives, the Living Museum of Franciscanism also reinforces its connection with the community, promoting spaces for meeting and coexistence and valuing an intergenerational dimension of museological activity, bringing heritage, culture, and traditions closer to people.
