The Portas da Cidade Azores Canadá Association has gifted the Museum of Azorean Emigration, in Ribeira Grande, a replica of Azores Park, a space located in Brampton, Ontario.

The Portas da Cidade Azores Canadá Association has made a significant donation to the Museum of Azorean Emigration, located in Ribeira Grande, Azores. The offering is a replica of Azores Park, a cultural space situated in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Recently, a replica of the Portas da Cidade of Ponta Delgada was inaugurated in this same Canadian park.
The replica's handover took place during a visit by an association delegation to the Azores. Led by president Guido Pacheco, vice-president Frank Garcia, and treasurer José António Cordeiro, the group made a point of visiting Ribeira Grande to personally express their gratitude for the Municipality's contribution to the requalification of the Azores Park square.
Azores Park serves as a new meeting point and a space for valuing the Azorean identity and that of Ribeira Grande in Brampton. In addition to the replica of the Portas da Cidade, the area includes a monument dedicated to the Cavalhadas of São Pedro da Ribeira Seca, reinforcing the cultural and emotional ties between the Azorean community in Canada and their homeland.
The replica was received by the president of the Câmara Municipal da Ribeira Grande, Jaime Vieira, and councilor Miguel Bernardo. Both thanked the Associação Portas da Cidade Azores Canadá for their gesture, highlighting its significance as an expression of recognition and closeness between the Azorean communities across the Atlantic.
The event was also attended by the Regional Director for Communities, José Andrade, and the coordinator of the Museum of Azorean Emigration, Rui Faria.
This donation to the Museum of Azorean Emigration thus becomes another representative element of the connection between the Azores and their diaspora, perpetuating the memory of a project that brought symbols of regional identity to the Azorean community in Brampton.
