The Ponta Delgada Municipal Council congratulated Sofia Melo, a karateka from the Clube Karaté Shotokan da Relva (CKSR), for achieving first place in the National Ranking of the National Karate Federation - Portugal (FNK-P), in the Female Youth Kumite -55 kg category. This leadership is a significant recognition of the young athlete's competitive journey, who has been making her mark on the national scene.
Sofia Melo is also part of the group of Regional Young Talents, recognized by the Regional Directorate of Sports of the Azores, which acknowledges her sporting potential. Her performance gains further relevance with the classification of eight athletes from the Clube Karaté Shotokan da Relva among the top ten national positions in their respective categories.
The President of the Ponta Delgada Municipal Council, Pedro Nascimento Cabral, expressed the municipality's pride: “It is with great pride that the Municipality of Ponta Delgada congratulates Sofia Melo for leading the National Ranking in her category. This result demonstrates the quality of the work developed by the athlete, the club, and her coaches, and it also represents a source of pride for our council and for the Azores.”
The mayor further highlighted that the presence of eight athletes from the club among the top ten national positions “evidences the consistency of the work developed by the associative and sporting movement of Ponta Delgada, particularly in the training of young people”. The council executive considers Sofia Melo's position a recognition of individual merit and the training efforts of the Clube Karaté Shotokan da Relva.
Founded on September 18, 2007, the Clube Karaté Shotokan da Relva is dedicated to the practice and development of Karate-Do, playing a relevant role in the training of young athletes and the promotion of sports in Ponta Delgada.
