The Municipal Chamber of Angra do Heroísmo joined the organization of the 8th Ramo Grande Breed Breeder's Day, held on October 17th and 18th, 2026, on Terceira Island, promoting the valorization of one of the most emblematic native breeds of the Azores and discussing its future.

The initiative, promoted by the Ramo Grande Cattle Breeders Association, included a diverse program featuring technical visits to livestock farms, a parade of Ramo Grande oxen through the historic center streets of Angra do Heroísmo, and the colloquium “Ramo Grande: A Legacy with a Future,” held at the Teatro Angrense.
The meeting brought together breeders, researchers, technicians, and institutional representatives to reflect on the breed's conservation, valorization, and sustainability, addressing topics such as the challenges of native breeds, the importance of genetic selection, the appreciation of Ramo Grande meat, and the sector's development prospects.
The Ramo Grande Breed is an important element of the Azorean agricultural heritage, distinguished by its adaptation to local conditions and the historical role it played in the Azores' agricultural activity. The event helped to increase the breed's visibility and recognize the work of its breeders in preserving this genetic heritage.
The Municipality's participation aligns with supporting initiatives that promote agriculture, livestock farming, and the valorization of regional resources, recognizing their importance to the Azorean economy.
